The URL Generator

(Pro Edition only)

The URL Generator can be used to to generate a list of URLs (addresses) containing a sequence of numbers. You can only use the URL generator in a 'List of URLs' type of project. To start such a project select New/List of URLs from the main menu. The URL List of the Site Wizard will be displayed. Click the Generate button near the bottom to open the URL generator.

Use the input fields at the top to specify:
URL Template: 
This is the URL into which you want to insert a sequence of numbers. Place a $ character where you want the generated numbers to be inserted. Eg:
http://website.com/file$.html
will generate
http://website.com/file1.html
http://website.com/file2.html
http://website.com/file3.html
etc

The numbers can be inserted into any part of a web address: the domain name, path, file name or query string. Eg:
http://website.com/$folder/index.html    (Inserted into the path)
http://website.com/page.html?startpage=$&search=doctors (Inserted into the query string)

If you want to include a $ sign in a URL, use $$ instead. Eg:
http://website.com/page.html?currency=$$&value=&
becomes
http://website.com/page.html?currency=$&value=100

Start, Finish: The lowest and highest numbers to generate.

Step: If you don't want every number in the sequence, Step gives a value to increase each generated number by. Eg: A step of 3 will generate 1, 4, 7, 10 etc.

Padding, Length: Use these fields if you want to pad the generated numbers with leading digits to a fixed length. Length is the number of digits to make each generated number (note that a number will not be shortened if Length is less than the number of digits in Finish. Padding is the character (or sequence of characters) to pad with. Eg:

Value  Padding  Length  Result
1  0  4  0001
100  0  4  0100
1  -  4  ---1
1  AB  4  ABA1  (More than one charater in Padding)
10000  0  4  10000  (The number will not be shortened)

The list will show the URLs generated by the current settings. You can manually edit the items shown here if necessary. This area may also show warnings about your input values.

Click OK to save the generated values in the project.
