Open Site and Open Sites

You can use these menu items to open a site which is already on disk. Both these fucntions will be found on the Site menu.

The site must have previously been opened with PageNest V2.51 or later for the sites to be opened successfully. If not try the Import feature instead.

You can open a site which is been lost from the tree through a system crash or hard disk failure (where you have a backup of the site itself) or which has been copied from another machine. Note that if the site has been copied it must have been copies to the same location on a drive with the same letter.

Use Open Site to open a single site. In the folder selection box select the root folder of the site, e.g. 'C:\MySites\SiteName'.

Open Sites will scan a folder for any sites which are not already in the site tree. Select the folder which is the parent folder of the sites. E.g. if you have the sites C:\MySites\Site1 and C:\MySites\Site2 you would need to select the folder 'C:\MySites'.

If the site is marked as read only on disk it will not be saved permanently in the tree and you will not be able to download or update it. This may be because the site is on CD or has been copied from a CD. If it's the latter you can use the following process to removed the read only flag for every file in the site.

Open a DOS box - Start Menu, Run and 'command' and click OK.
Navigate to the correct drive if necessary. Type the drive letter, a colon and press enter, e.g. 'e:'<enter>.
Navigate to the site using the 'cd' command, e.g. 'cd mysites'<enter>. Use double quotes (") around folder names that include a space.
(You may find it helpful to use the dir command to find your way around: type 'dir /p'<enter>
When you are in the root folder for the site type the folowing command:
attrib -r *.* /s
and press enter. This will clear the read only attribute for every file in the site.
